Green Coffee Foundation

The course is aimed at participants who wish to gain initial insight into the world of green coffee. The factors of green coffee types, harvesting and processing methods are considered in relation to their influence on the result in the cup. During practical cuppings the participants experience the wide variety of coffee as a product.

  • Introductory theory on botany and geographical cultivation
  • Questions of origin in relation to farm management
  • Farm management: Harvest and processing methods
  • Introductory theory on grading and quality declarations
  • Storage and transportation

Course objectives

The course participant

  • can distinguish the two main species in terms of their origin, their agronomic requirements and their profile in the cup.
  • understands the classical processing methods.
  • is familiar with different grading approaches.
  • can distinguish between a “clean” and a faulty cup.
  • understands the principles of the green coffee trade and contracts.
  • feels ready for the SCA CSP Green Coffee Foundation exam.

Examination:

CSP Green Coffee Foundation: 5 points

Theoretical examination according to the specifications of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) is held independently by the participants as an online examination within 21 days after the training. Instead of taking a practical exam, the participant receives feedback on the status of his or her skills, which can be further developed for the Green Coffee Intermediate course.
