Green Coffee Professional

The course is aimed at participants who have a good basic knowledge of green coffee and would like to acquire specialist knowledge. Specialist knowledge enables the participants to hold their own in discussions on green coffee matters: From cultivation to the cup, the parameters that influence quality are considered in detail. Good sensory skills (CSP Sensory Skills Intermediate) are recommended for this course. The final day of the course ends with the voluntary CSP Green Coffee Professional examination.

Course contents

  • Botanical theory and geographical cultivation
  • Questions of origin in relation to farm management
  • Farm management: Harvest and processing methods
  • Green coffee defects and grading
  • Transport: Understands the precautions for transporting green coffee
  • Insight into decaffeination

Course objectives

The course participant

  • knows the diversity, differences and affinities of botanical species.
  • understands the classical processing methods.
  • can analyse raw and roasted coffee samples with regard to quality and defects.
  • understands green coffee portfolio management in terms of volume, costs and volatile markets.
  • understands the price-influencing costs of coffee production.
  • understands the principles of trade and can calculate simple prices.
  • feels ready for testing SCA CSP Green Coffee Professional.
